TERRACE IN THE PARK
A gracefully curving bluestone walk nestled into a garden creates a sense of entrance into the rear yard. The walk is situated inside a retaining wall which was required by a two foot change of elevation which paralleled the house. The wall was designed to retain the grade, give character to the entryway and terrace areas of the yard, and to act as a seat wall when large gatherings required it. The garden provides seasonal color, year round interest and a delightful fragrance.
From the terrace, a broad set of steps leads outward into the park-like surroundings. Within the bluestone terrace is a circular brick patio which defines the dining space. Step stones lead through a knot garden to a smaller, circular patio highlighted by a fountain feature. The beauty of the surrounding property, the sound issuing from the fountain and the color and fragrance provided by the plantings all contribute to the enhancement of the this garden experience.
