POND RETREAT

Nestled into a slope, a cascade of water tumbles down over stone ledges and courses through small streams before coming to rest in a large, lower pond surrounded by lush foliage. The entire water system cascades naturally downhill traversing man-made rock ledges and waterfalls as it winds it way down into a larger, lower reservoir pond.

Large stands of Rhododendron, Azalea and Hydrangea make-up the woodland understory. A specimen Threadleaf Red Maple is planted as a focal point, its arching branches playfully stroking the water’s edge. Numerous perennials provide seasonal color, and textural and foliage contrast alongside the streambeds and woodland floor.

This landscape is a place of refuge, contemplation and discovery. Its atmosphere is soothing and encourages relaxation. The garden bench offers restful repose in which to contemplate the light and shadows reflected on the water’s surface or to watch the koi play in the pond. This miniature wild refuge looks as though it has always been there.
